Spring is Here!

Spring is here!  Finally!  It has felt like winter would never leave. Yesterday I went searching down back country roads to find the perfect picture as proof it is truly springtime.

This was it - the perfect spot! A warm soft breeze was blowing through the sunlit trees.  Insects were buzzing around the yellow flowers blooming in the grass.  An idyllic pond in a green pasture surrounded with fresh grass...almost perfect...but not exactly.  It was missing something...something to show it was in the country not on a golf course in the city.  It needed TWO HORSES calmly munching fresh grass enjoying the perfect weather.

"Hey, ya'll! Come over here!" I yelled.

"Lucy, would you and Ethel be interested in doing a favor for me?" I asked.

"I might be persuaded to negotiate. It all depends on what you are willing to offer. Hey, Ethel!  There is a crazy lady here who wants a favor.  Are you interested?" neighed Lucy.

"I walked all the way down here to hear your offer.  Make it good."

"I am all ears."

"If both of you will stand in front of the pond, let me take your picture, I will post it on the internet and you will become famous!" I offered.

"Not impressed," said Lucy. "We would prefer a bag of oats, apples or carrots."

"How about a good nose scratching instead?" I offered.

"Do you think we are pushover horse traders?  This is not our first rodeo." snorted Ethel.

Scratch, scratch, scratch.

Scratch, scratch, scratch.

"A deal is a deal, so quit dragging your hoves, trot on over to the pond and give me your best side!" I said.

"Sure thing," snickered Lucy and Ethel.  "Snap the picture fast because you only get what you pay for."

  1. Having read your story, I feel that these two horses are quite obedient.
Lucky horses on such a green pasture! They have all they need: Sun and shadow, lush grass and
water. They surely will enjoy these ideal conditions.
And I think you will enjoy beautiful springtime. It is the best time of the year as long as temperatures are not so high.

    1. The horses surprised me. I got out of the car to take the picture over the fence and they walked right up to me! They seemed to be accustomed to getting attention. It appeared they were curious and were looking for a treat.

Right now the weather is perfect but I am working long hours. It always works that way.

    1. It took long enough! I went to the Amish country this past week and they are just beginning to plow also. Everyone's garden is late this year.

    1. Oh no, Margaret, that is not what I want to do! If everyone moved to the country it would become the be the city! EVERYBODY IN THE CITY NEEDS TO STAY IN THE CITY!

  4. It looks like the weather is gorgeous there! We have been having a good spell of weather, also, here in Oregon. I, also, have to work quite a bit whenever it is nice---that's how it seems to go. But, I was able to get out into the garden here and there this past week, and am gaining on getting everything planted that I want. I'm still not done, but gaining on it! I hope it stays nice for a few more days.
