The Stork Returns for Another Visit

The horse breeder who uses our land to board his mares, arrived right after sunrise this morning to walk our property.  Sometime last night, the stork flew over and dropped a surprise - an eagerly anticipated present.  The expectant mother had absolutely refused to return to the barn and then hid the baby in the far corner of the field. With it by her side, she was easier to catch.  However, it still took three men, one dog and a bucket of her favorite feed to convince her to leave.

Baby followed along willingly until she balked behind the big metal monster that swallowed her mom.

Nope.  She changed her mind and decided to run the other way.

She really should be named Heavy, Kicking, Squirming Baby...

Who wasn't happy about being shoved into the trailer.

Then Mom's companion saw the trailer door closing and realized her best friend was leaving her behind.  She began neighing and running in circles around the trailer announcing her separation anxiety.

The horse whisperer looked her in the eye and said she is now the leader of the pack.  It is her responsibility to guide the herd.  She should act more ladylike and set a good example for the others.  It worked.  She listened.  He definitely speaks their language.

Mom was impatient to get to the comfort of the barn.  She didn't like me wasting time taking a picture.

I ignored her and took one anyway.  Welcome to this world Little One.

  1. The legs of new-born foals are so long and slim. Beautiful!

  2. Oh, so precious....I have been around calves, and handled and fooled with them, but never had the pleasure of being around a foal! I feel I missed something.

    1. I wish I could have enjoyed her more but her Mom kept her in the back of the field. We looked all morning but she never appeared. It wasn't until they walked them over the hill that I got a glimpse and even then, she stayed behind her Mom. Mom didn't want me close to Little One at all. I got the picture by sticking the camera through the slats of the trailer.
