A Shocking Situation, Annual Inspection, 2019

It has been one year, three months and six days since I last reported on the Shocking Situation in Belle Meade, Tennessee.   On a recent trip to Nashville, I was able to drive by and observe if there had been any changes. First, Nashville's disgraced ex-mayor is out of jail but, more importantly, a new sidewalk has been built under the shocking situation.

However, even in a fashionable, tree-lined street located in tranquil suburbia, danger lurks in the shade.

The electric powerline is still running between the spreading limbs of a tree.

The branches continue to expand as the space narrows.

The government can build a sidewalk but can't seem to move the crucial powerline threaded recklessly between two expanding tree branches.  How much longer before it causes a disaster?

Perhaps the real question to ask is: How many more years can I drive around in circles staring at a tree branch before someone notices my odd behavior?

    1. I looked at the first pictures I posted in 2017 and there were two more lines going between the branches, now there is only one. Someone obviously knows about it.

  2. Is this sidewalk for pedestrians only or is it for cyclists as well?
It would be best if the electrical lines would be laid underground.
Could it be that this is planned for the future?

    1. The sidewalk is for pedestrians and cyclists are supposed to use the road; however, bikes would probably use the sidewalk too if it wasn't crowded. When new subdivision are built, the lines are often laid underground but in the older parts of the city, the wires are still on poles. I think the city is slowly changing over but it will take decades before they have enough money to bury all of them. I just don't understand why they don't fix this one.

  3. I am laughing at your question about yourself...I am afraid I would be as obsessed about the power lines as you are. Can you imagine being near that tree when 'it' finally happens. I bet sparks will fly and who knows what else.

    1. Maybe I am not the only person who sees crazy things when they are driving...or maybe it's only crazy becoming obsessed with starring at the odd things.

  4. That's pretty wild! I've been meaning to ask... I have a nice article on Metrolina Greenhouses, from Carolina Country mag. If I remember, one of your sons is or was working there? If you haven't already seen it, & would like to, I'd be happy to send it, or scan & email it to you.

  5. You crack me up! I can just see you crashing into something because you are staring at the power lines—oh, wait—that would be what I would do.....you, obviously, are much more attentive!

I finally saw a big, cute mailbox like the ones you posted about a while back—I hadn’t noticed it before—see what I miss?

    1. I am not more attentive - I just make one of the boys or Bill chauffeur me around. I'm lazy.
Take a picture of the mailbox so I can see it!
