Run Run Rudolph

HELP!  I took a wrong turn and now I  am stuck behind this huge fence.  It is too tall for me to jump over.  All of the other fawns were born before me and are much bigger.  They won't play with me and call me a baby.  What should I do?  Go left? Go right?

Think, think, think.

The fence on the other side of the garden looks smaller. I will jump it.

 RUN!

RUN!

RUN RUN RUDOLPH!

Screeches to a halt and pauses to reconsider.

This fence is just as tall as the other fence now that I am close.  What should I do?  Should I go back the other way?  I will be stuck in this garden forever.

"RUDOLPH!" yelled big brother Bucky from the field.  "You can fly over the fence.  All deer named Rudolph have that power!"

WOOSH!

Well, that was easy.  I am a natural flyer.  I wonder if there will be any more flying in my future?

  1. We had deer trouble at our old house in the country, so had to put up a very tall fence around the garden. I can't remember if it was 8 or 10 feet, but it was tall enough that they were not able to jump over. They sure are cute, though, and I miss seeing them. The only things that jump our fence at our new place in town have been a cat, some birds, a raccoon, and one day, a wild turkey! I was really quite amazed about the turkey:)

    1. It is amazing to see how they simply hop flat-footed, I mean flat-hoofed over the fence. No effort, no running start, just a little hop. I didn't get a picture because it was so quick.

  2. These animals are so elegant and charming.
    Always hungry, but never overweight.
Always on the move. That seems to be the reason.

    1. This little one was definitely upset about being separated from the rest of the herd and did not like me out on the back deck taking his picture. Hunting season has begun and they are all moving onto our property where it is safe. Bill counted 11 the other day.

I suppose I would not be overweight if all I ate was leaves, grass and acorns. Perhaps that would be a good weight loss diet!

    1. Scooter was locked in the house because he would not have been nice to the little lost fawn. If it runs, Scooter will chase it. If it stops, Scooter will get behind Pack Leader and bark.
