The Birdhouse House

It was a DRUM on top of the mailbox!  The homeowner bought it at a thrift store at an unbelievable price.  Not knowing what to do, he put it on top of his mailbox!  Everybody needs a drum on top of their mailbox.

In the previous post, Happy New Year! I shared how we met the owner of the drum mailbox.  We were ogling it while parked in the middle of the road.  He invited us to see the other treasures in his yard so we followed him down his driveway. We weren't disappointed.  He loved to make birdhouses and they were everywhere.

As he honored us with a personal tour, his favorite words were "reused" and "recycled."

As I was enjoying the tour of his gardens, I discovered another mailbox!

I also spotted an alligator, a giant butterfly, and a dragonfly.

Just when I thought it could not get any more exciting, the kind gentleman invited Bill and me (complete strangers) inside his greenhouse.  He built it himself and everything was "reused" and "recycled."

I was not surprised to see more birdhouses, but there were many other interesting things to see.

It was a blessing to step inside the warmth after walking outside in the bitter cold.  It was like stepping back into summer, feeling warm while being surrounded by living plants.

As we chatted we discovered people we all knew, it is the country, after all, everyone knows each other.  But the most amazing discovery and the thing that surprised me the most was how he invited complete strangers into his home and shared his treasures.

I love living out in the country and being with country people.  Even though he has moved here from New Jersey, his heart is pure country.

    1. I was amazed at his generous hospitality toward complete strangers - and everything else too.

  2. This man is very creative and he has lots of ideas. But I think, such a person also needs a sort of audience. I mean, he welcomes visitors who look at all things that he has created. That is quite normal, so it was surely not only a pleasure for you, but for him also. I think, he had a lot to tell you.

    1. He did have many interesting stories and I enjoyed listening while I clicked my camera. It was fun being an audience.

  3. That was fun! I'm always intrigued by how imaginative some creations are. Those bird houses make me want to pick through the rubbish and start making some....

    1. Not me. I try it but my trash creations always look like garbage. This man had the talent, but I had the appreciation.

I loved your post about the mailboxes too.

    1. Jo, I didn't know this man was my neighbor because I have only gone down this road once when I was lost. Now I will return with a batch of cookies from time to time and hope for an invitation to once again walk through his garden. I am sneaky like that.

  5. That man is an artist! I wonder if he could sell some of those creative items. Anyway, it was awesome to get to see them via your blog:)

    1. He did make a few things which he sold to a local retail store; but would not sell anything he had to wrap up and mail. I don't blame him on that one.

  6. That was fun, for the creator to share, and us to enjoy.

Today we walked on the beach, with a kind gentle breeze.
Now letting the cool evening air in, and hoping for tomorrow's little bit of rain.

  7. "A kind gentle breeze" sounds long ago and far away. I know warm weather will return someday, but it is hard to believe it right now.

I hope you get rain, I know you need it desperately.
