December's Tomatoes

December 23rd salad from the garden.
DID IT!  I had tomatoes survive until December 23rd. I put them in the salad along with other vegetables freshly harvested from my winter garden.  It includes all types of greens, onions, sugar beets, white radishes and watermelon radishes, plus MY TOMATOES FROM THE SUMMER GARDEN!!!

This is an update from the post: A Killing Frost.  My garden was hit by a hard frost on November 9th, 2016 and I had harvested all my tomatoes and stored them for the winter in a cardboard box with newspaper.  This is how they looked then.

This is all that was left on December 23, 2016.  They are a bit shriveled, but they tasted fine, not as good as fresh picked off the vine, but better than the ones from the grocery store.

Now I am ready to start the spring garden or at least spend time perusing all the seed catalogs which are arriving daily in the mail.  Wonder how all these companies know I'm a sucker for new seeds?

  1. I did that last year with tomatoes and it was so rewarding to eat my tomatoes for so long. Hopefully this next year I can try again. I am starting to make my seed list as well. My sister gave me a large gift certificate for Territorial seeds--so I'm super excited to spend it as we used everything up last year, for the most part.

    1. I have Territorial seed catalog sitting in my pile of reading. Oh, how I love to read them, and look at the pictures, and dream of warm weather.

It was wise to use up everything last year; one less thing to move. You have a good garden site in your yard and should be able to grow a huge garden. You also have some good helpers. It will be fun watching your garden grow and see how long your tomatoes last next winter.

      Will spring ever come????
