Today's Bloom, June 15, 2017

Bachelor Buttons
Today I will be joining a party and linking up with May Dreams Garden for Garden Blogger's Bloom Day to share the June blooms from my garden.

I will begin with my most surprising plant.  One hellebore is still blooming! I am in zone 6b/7a, lower middle Tennessee, on June 15th and it is still in full bloom.  They are beginning to wane, but not much.  All the others are finished for the year and are behaving normally, but not this one.  There is nothing I have done differently this year.  It's too bad I can't take credit, but alas, my garden does as it pleases.

This is the magical location in my garden.  It is in deep shade and is surrounded by rocks.  Everything in my garden is surrounded by rocks.  Sigh.

My elephant garlic is blooming and I think it looks great so I took a picture before I picked it to sprinkle in a salad.

One lonely poppy is left.

Right now the daylilies are blooming.  When I first planted the garden, years ago, most of them bloomed at the same time.  Over time, the trees have matured which put some in deep shade and others in full sun so now they bloom at different times.  Those in deep shade are just now forming their buds.

Ten days ago on June 4th, I shared my neglected garden.   It was covered in spider webs.  I had been working long hours and was unable to do any weeding.  For everyone who was concerned about my flowers, (maybe someone was concerned?) here again is my favorite resting spot without the webs.  Finally, I have been able to do a little gardening, some resting, and a great deal of tea drinking.

And of course, as everyone knows, if I don't add a picture of Scooter, my Mom (Hi, Mom), will complain.

Scooter trying to figure out what kept bopping his head every time the wind blew.

  1. Your Bachelor Buttons are an amazing color. I love the Peach Daylily, too. But the best picture is of Scooter sniffing the flower.....you caught him at just the right time.

    1. Scooter was not happy. He wanted to go back into the air conditioner but I was determined to get a picture for Mom.

I love Bachelor Buttons because it is hard to find such a true blue flower.

  2. Jeannie - What wonderful photographs. Those who have stone may sigh, but those who wish they had some stone sigh, too. None of us are ever satisfied.

    1. I tell myself, weeds don't grow where the rocks are sitting. If they were not there, I would have to weed that spot.

  3. Scooter is a doll. How dare those blooms bop him. :) Your garden looks quite lively with all these blooms. Happy GBBD.

  5. I love the deep blue of the Bachelor Buttons. They grow around here, too, but usually a little later in the summer. My mom loves day lilies and so has had quite a few in the past. You have some lovely colors. The previous owner of this house has left me lots of surprises, but no day lilies. I'm ok with that, because I'm so enjoying the things that are here, such as peonies, many spring bulbs, several kinds of iris, huge rhodies, and a nice garden spot. I am trying to see what there is before adding much more to the mixture. There is plenty of work to do--can't seem to get it done, yet.

    1. These Bachelor Buttons had reseeded themselves all over the garden. Thank goodness for volunteers because I can't get all the work done either!

  7. Such a lovely flower parade!
I love the blue color of the Bachelor Button (we call it Kornblume).
Some say this might be the Blue Flower of Romanticism.
